Introduction:

I know you are busy – you have a lot of profiles to get through so, I’ll make it quick:

Why choose me?
• I have been a London guide for 13 years and I absolutely love showing people round London.
• I am fun, nice and organised and I'm determined to make sure that you have a good time.
• I know my history, art and culture – so we can delve deep or have chats about life - it is up to you!
• I don’t lecture, I think everyone enjoys a conversation more – and if you have kids I will do my very best to engage them and get them chatting and curious (I'm a mum too, so I spend lots of time with kids).
• I am curious about you. I want to know about you so I can tailor your tour to what you want to do, to make your trip as amazing as possible.
• I am good value for money and well qualified.
• I get a lot of work, so get in touch so I don’t get booked up! But if I am booked up I know loads of amazing guides I can put you in touch with (I train Blue Badge Guides so I personally know 400 of them!)

Specialisms include:
Art History, Museums and Galleries (I have an MA in Art History and am a Blue Badge Trainee Guide tutor in the National Gallery, I also teach History of Art at Richmond University); Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, British Museum, Tate Modern, Tate Britain, National Gallery; Hampton Court Palace; Kensington Palace; St Paul's Cathedral; London Highlights Tours; London walking tours; River Walk; Westminster Walk and Royal London Walk. As I have an MA in History of Art (Modernism and Subjectivities) I particularly enjoy trying to make the art of all periods come to life, and in giving you the tools to enjoy it even more.

London covers all periods and styles of art so let me know what you want and I'll find it for you, whether an introduction for students or something more in depth.

Galleries

Including National Gallery, Tate Britain, Tate Modern, National Portrait Gallery, V&A: Medieval and Renaissance or British Galleries, Courtauld Gallery, Leighton House, John Soane Museum, Queen's House Greenwich, Wallace Collection, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Contemporary Galleries.

Museums

including British Museum, Museum of London, Victoria and Albert Museum, Museum of Childhood, National Maritime Museum

Walking Tours

Walking tours are the best way to understand London, walking the streets, passing the locals, and learning how to read the clues to the past that history has left us. Walks include '2000 years of London: The Square Mile', 'Liquid History: How the Thames made London'; 'Royal Westminster', 'The London Blitz', 'Artists in London', 'Bohemians in Soho' and others. DO get in touch for a complete list of walks.

Architecture

London has suffered two great disasters, the Great Fire of London of 1666 and the Blitz of 1940-41 - is has been rebuilt many times and as a result it is patchwork of stunning architectural examples from many different periods. We could walk through the streets and explore the different architectural styles, and/or pop into buildings to study a period in depth, such as the Medieval Westminster Abbey or Guildhall; the Baroque St Paul's Cathedral; or the Norman Tower of London. We could also explore the wonderful Victoria and Albert Museum to get a better idea of how interior decoration and vernacular architecture has changed in Britain over time.

Churches & Cathedrals

including Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral, the remarkable Wren Churches in the City and City Churches.

Castles & Palaces

including The Tower of London, Windsor Castle, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace.

History & Prehistory

We can visit Westminster Abbey for medieval history or the National Portrait Gallery for British Historical figures? The British Museum for the Ancient World or the National Maritime Museum for stories of the British Empire. We can find a site to discuss all historical topics.

Decorative Arts/Arts & Crafts

at the V&A, the world's greatest collection of Decorative Arts

Education

I enjoy trying to make tours not only fun but also educational and I particularly enjoy engaging young people, especially in museums and galleries. So whether you are visiting with your children or with a school group do get in touch. I also work as a gallery educator for people with special needs, so please contact me to discuss requirements.

Lecture Subjects

I am happy to prepare lectures on a range of topics. I can prepare lectures on aspects of London, historical periods, and art historical subjects. Please get in touch to discuss requirements.
